Virginia Gwen Young, age 68, of Colby, passed away Wednesday, November 18th, 2020, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. She was born June 17, 1952, in Colby, Kansas to Jefferson and Gwen (Couch) Young. Virginia was baptized in the First Presbyterian Church of Colby and attended school in Colby, a proud graduate of the 1970 senior class. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas.
After college, Virginia Gwen lived and worked in Denver before returning home to Colby. She was best known as the Executive Assistant at Citizen’s Medical Center from 1988 until she retired in December 2015. She strived for excellence when fulfilling her job responsibilities and felt a special affection for her colleagues. In retirement, she enjoyed cooking, crosswords, reading, classic movies and art. She was a faithful, loyal and loving person.
Virginia Gwen is survived by her younger brother, Jeff Young, his wife, Ann of Hays, and sister-in-law, Nancy Young of Olathe, Kansas. Nephews Parker Young and family, Matt Young and family, Ethan Young and family, and niece Sarah Young, cherish the times they each spent in the company of “Aunt Ginny”.
Virginia Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, two older brothers, Parker and Keane Young, and by her nephew Brendan Young.
A private family service will be planned for a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the City of Colby in support of Young Memorial Field or to the Citizens Foundation.
