SCHOENCHEN — For 150 years, the community of Schoenchen has celebrated its rich German heritage, strong faith and close-knit community spirit — and now everyone is invited to be part of the celebration on Sunday, May 24.

The Schoenchen 150th Celebration will feature a full day of activities, food, music and fellowship honoring the town’s history and traditions.

The day begins with Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Bishop Jerry Vincke and music provided by the Trilogy German Choir. Following Mass, attendees are invited to a cemetery visit honoring the ancestors and families who helped build the Schoenchen community.

A traditional German meal will be served at 11 a.m. at the community center by the Schoenchen Altar Society featuring galuskies, German sausage, cream noodles and beans, homemade bread and dessert. Adult tickets are $20 and children 8 and under eat free.

Throughout the afternoon, activities on the church grounds will include inflatables for kids, cornhole and live music from the Hot Shots Polka Band.

The celebration continues into the evening with burgers, brats and hotdogs served by the Schoenchen Knights of Columbus #4166, followed by live country and Red Dirt music from Brady Nichols & The High Plains Drifters.

Commemorative 150th anniversary merchandise including custom cutting boards, koozies and T-shirts will also be available throughout the event.

Community members, former residents and visitors are all encouraged to come celebrate the history, culture and traditions that have made Schoenchen special for generations on Sunday, May 24.
