🏊Indian swimmers qualify for Saturday's finals

After the first day of the 5-1A state Swimming and Diving Championships in Lenexa, both Hays High Indian individual qualifiers and both relay teams have advanced to day number two.

On the first day of competition, Friday at the Shawnee Mission School District Aquatic Center, Hays junior Izabel Schmidt qualified Saturday’s finals with the third best time in the 50 yard freestyle and the fourth best team in the 100 yard freestyle.

Her teammate, freshman Jaylen Hughes also qualified for the finals with the 15th best time in the 100 yard free style.

The Indians girls 400 yard free style finished with the 10th best time and the 200 yard free style had the 12th best time, both teams qualified for the finals on Saturday.

The 400 and 200 yard freestyle teams are made up of Lucy Tippy, Breckyn Wahlmeier, Jaylen Hughes, Izabel Schmidt, Cailin DeBey and Sylvia Keller.

The 5-1A finals start at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
