WAKEENEY — Western Cooperative Electric (WCE) has awarded a $2,500 Sharing Success Community Grant to the Plainville Food Pantry to support its Holiday Project, helping provide additional food assistance to local families during Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.
The Plainville Food Pantry serves families in Damar, Palco, Zurich, Plainville, Codell, Natoma and the surrounding area of Paradise. The pantry currently assists approximately 76 to 85 families each month, representing an estimated 170 to 215 individuals — about a 15% increase from this time last year.
Families may visit the pantry once each month and receive a variety of food items, including bread, meat, fresh or canned vegetables and fruit.
The Sharing Success Grant will help the pantry provide additional assistance to families during the holiday seasons, when the need for food support can be especially important.
"Western Cooperative Electric is proud to support the Plainville Food Pantry and the families they serve," said Christina Hayes, member services manager of Western Cooperative Electric. "The work of local food pantries makes a meaningful difference in our communities, and this grant will help provide families with a little extra support during the holidays."
The Plainville Food Pantry's continued increase in families seeking assistance demonstrates the importance of having accessible food resources available in rural communities. Through the Holiday Project, the pantry hopes to provide additional food for families during Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.
