
Theodore Calvin Ronen, better known as Ted, 86, Hutchinson KS, died on April 4, 2022, at Hospice House.
He was born July 29, 1935, in Wichita KS, to William Loren and Marie Olivette (Weihe) Ronen. He grew up in Kansas and was a graduate of St. John High School in 1953. He graduated from Kansas State Teachers College (currently Emporia State University) with a degree in business administration/marketing in 1957. While in college, he played junior varsity basketball for two years and was a member of the men’s chorale and glee club.
Ted married Adele Marie Wilkens on December 28, 1955, when he was a junior at KSTC, Emporia.
Ted was co-owner of Meade Mfg. in Meade. He later started his own business in Meade, The Ronen Agency, which served the public in insurance, real estate, and securities. Most recently, after moving to Hutchinson, he was a real estate broker (aka The Cookie Man) for Coldwell Banker Americana from 1991 until his retirement in 2012.
In Meade, he was a member of Lions Club, a member of the school board for 8 years, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and he served on the City Council for several years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was in a bowling league and played on the men’s softball team. He coached his young sons’ baseball and basketball teams. Ted’s greatest interest/hobby was cars—especially Fords. He also enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Adele, of Hutchinson; 4 children, Pamela Jo Gillen (Bob) of McPherson (formerly of Hays), Michael Ronen (Lisa) of Kechi, Jack Ronen (Vonda) of Wichita, and Jeffrey Ronen (Michelle) of Wichita; 2 brothers, Jim Ronen (Cibyl) of Henderson TN, and Bill Ronen (Peggy) of Bosque Farms NM; 1 sister, Heidi Goodman (Gerald) of Hutchinson; 10 grandchildren, Kelsey Smyth, Valerie Bryant (Scott), Amanda Harmon (Chad), Rebecca Walenz (Sam), Kyle Ronen (Lauren), Kirk Ronen, Derek Ronen, Christopher Ronen (Taylor), Kevin Ronen, and Casie Taylor (David); 3 step-grandchildren, Seth Blehm, Avery McCulloch, and Mackenzie McCulloch; 10 great-grandchildren, Anderson Bryant, Connor Bryant, Alice Bryant, Collin Harmon, Grace Harmon, Jonah Walenz, Brantley Ronen, Jackson Ronen, Kendall Ronen, and Chandler Ronen; and 1 step-great-grandchild, Bryleigh Godfrey. Ted was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Olivia Walenz.
Cremation has taken place; inurnment will be at Lorraine Cemetery, Lorraine. The family will gather for a private Celebration of Life at a later date.
