Hays among Kansas cities welcoming new U.S. citizens

WICHITA – U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the U.S. District Court of Kansas will welcome 101 new U.S. citizens Friday at Wichita State University. Magistrate Judge Kenneth Gale will preside, and a clerk of the court will administer the Oath of Allegiance.

The citizenship candidates originate from 26 countries: Afghanistan, American Samoa, Benin, Burma, Canada, Colombia, Congo (Kinshasa), Cuba, Egypt, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Iran, Iraq, Mexico, Nepal, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Taiwan, Tunisia, Turkey and Vietnam.

The citizenship candidates live in Andover, Bucklin, Dodge City, Garden City, Hays, Hugoton, Liberal, Madison, Maize, McPherson, Park City, Plains, Spearville, Sublette and Wichita.

USCIS encourages new U.S. citizens and their families and friends to share their naturalization photos on social media using the hashtag #NewUSCitizen and #ConstitutionWeek.

USCIS naturalized approximately 625,000 people in fiscal year 2020. Many of them applied using USCIS online tools. More than seven million people have applied online for immigration benefits. To file online, individuals must first create a USCIS online account.
