Richard A. 'Dick' Moore Jr.

Richard A. “Dick” Moore Jr., 78, died Friday, December 24, 2021, at his home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born May 23, 1943, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Richard A. Moore, Sr. and Regina “Peggy” (Rupp) Moore.

Dick grew up in Hays, Kansas where he attended school and graduated from Hays High School in 1961. On August 21, 1963, he married Geraldine “Jerri” McCarthy in Hays, Kansas. They later moved to Garden City in 1982, moving from Kewanee, Illinois. Dick worked for 35 years as owner and operator of 5-S Distributors (Tom’s Candy) until his retirement. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City, Knights of Columbus, NRA, and Sand & Sage Rifle & Pistol Club. Dick enjoyed fishing, guns, collecting baseball cards, and refurbishing cars.

Survivors include his wife Jerri Moore of the home; 5 daughters Sue (Scott) Larsen of Garden City, Kansas, Shelly (John) Valley of Garden City, Kansas, Sherry Burling of Lafayette, Louisiana, Shannon (Clint Anderson) Moore of Liberal, Kansas, & Stacie (Paul Franceus) Moore of San Francisco, California; a brother Elden Moore of Scottsdale, Arizona; a sister Marla Moore of Gilbert, Arizona; 4 Grandchildren; 4 Step-Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren; and 8 Step-Great-Grandchildren. Dick is preceded in death by his parents.

A Vigil Service and Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City, Kansas. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2021, also at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City with Rev. Warren Stecklein as Celebrant. The Funeral Mass may also be viewed on Facebook Live on the Garnand Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. To 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.

The family suggests memorials given to St. Dominic Catholic Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association, both in care of the funeral home.
