Joe Wellington Armstrong

Lifelong Goodland, KS resident, Joe Wellington Armstrong, 73, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at the Goodland Medical Center in Goodland.

Joe was born on December 30, 1946 in Goodland, KS to Kenneth R. and Helen (Jones) Armstrong.  He was one of two children.  Joe attended public school in Goodland and graduated from Goodland High School in 1965.  He then went on to attend Fort Hays State University for a year and a half.

On August 3, 1968, Joe married Threse Kashka at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland.  To this union, two children Andy and Jeremy were born.

Joe was a quintessential farmer.  During his farming days, he grew sugar beets, sunflowers, wheat, milo, alfalfa, and corn.  He also raised hogs, beef and dairy cattle.  Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and was a 50-year member of the Goodland Elks Lodge.  He was also an excellent welder and made many of the trailers used around the farm.

After his farming days, Joe enjoyed creating wooden flower boxes and garden benches.  He became a Master Gardener and sold his produce at the local farmer’s market.

Preceding Joe in death were his parents, a sister Tonya Cook and a granddaughter Kara Fishman-Armstrong.

He is survived by his wife Threse of the home, two sons Andy (Susie) Armstrong of Norman, OK and Jeremy (Tish) Armstrong of Youngtown, AZ.  He is also survived by three grandchildren; Andrea Armstrong of Norman, OK, Brandy Morales of Douglasville, GA, and Amelia Armstrong of Youngtown, AZ.
