The Fort Hays State baseball team wraps up a six-game home stand this weekend (March 26-27) with a three-game conference series against ninth-ranked Missouri Southern. The Tigers and Lions will open the series with a single game beginning at 5 p.m. Friday before facing off in a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon.
Fan attendance is permitted inside Larks Park, with fans asked to maintain social distance from other fan groups and wear a mask at all times. Every other row is blocked off to support social distancing. Admission is free.
Grant Schmidt has six doubles this season, seventh-most in the MIAA. Ed Scott averages 0.77 walks per contest, sixth-best in the league. The Manhattan, Kan. sophomore also leads the league and ranks 12th nationally with three sacrifice flies. Drake Angeron's team-best 21 base hits ranks 16th in the MIAA. Jake Campbell leads the Tiger pitching staff with 26 strikeouts this season, 15th-most in the conference. Ryan Ruder sports a team-best 5.00 ERA among qualified pitchers, while Jacob Ensz leads the way with a .270 batting average against.
Missouri Southern is powered by a strong pitching staff that sports the best ERA in the MIAA at 2.98, 11th-best in the country. Zach Parish has 55 strikeouts through six games started this season, the most in the MIAA and fourth-most in Division II. He is tied for first nationally with five wins on the bump. Troy Gagan paces the league with seven home runs this season, ninth-most in the country.
The Lions lead the all-time series, 37-18, including a 13-10 edge in games played in Hays. The Tigers are looking to break a nine-game MSSU winning streak in the series, with the last Tiger win coming on the road in 2016 (4/24/16).
