Edmund 'Eddie' E. Zerr

Edmund “Eddie” E. Zerr, 83, of Grainfield, Kansas, passed away on January 5, 2022, at Gove County Medical Center in Quinter, Kansas.

Eddie was born on July 31, 1938, in Quinter, to Clem and Mary Zerr. He grew up near Park, Kansas, and was the fifth of six children. Eddie attended St. Elmo Grade School and graduated from Park High School in 1957.

After high school, Eddie joined the United States Air Force and was eventually stationed in Japan. Following his military service, he spent the majority of his life as a farmer and cattleman near Grainfield, and loved nothing more than being outside, tending to his land and cattle.

Eddie was married to Janice M. Mense on November 10, 1959; they were married for 60 years. Eddie and Janice both enjoyed spending time at the cabin at Cedar Bluff with friends and family.

Eddie is survived by his children Mary L. Williams of Wallace, Kansas, Debora Chapin (Kirk) of Hays, Kansas, and Richard “Rick” Zerr of Grainfield; grandchildren Brynn Peter (Trent) of Basehor, Kansas, Brodie Poe (Eric) of Sharon Springs, Kansas, Brock Williams of Golden, Colorado, Tyler Chapin (Mary) of Hays, and Tanner Chapin (Brittany Dinkel) of Grainfield; great-grandchildren Taelynn, Bristyn, and Bankston Peter, Dally, Ketch, Tye, and Keiper Poe, and Emery Chapin; brother Len Zerr (Maxine) of Quinter; sister Marie Kriley of New Braunfels, Texas; brother-in-law Rodney Mense (Frankie) of Grinnell, Kansas; sister-in-law Joan Weinhardt of Grinnell; and several nieces and nephews.

Eddie was preceded in death by both parents; his wife Janice; son Stephen G. Zerr; infant brother Leo Zerr; sisters Agnes Burgardt and Clemie (Hubert) Dreiling; in-laws Lawrence and Louise Mense; and brothers-in-law Sonny Weinhardt and Ron Kriley.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Grainfield with Father James Thomas as celebrant. Burial will follow at Grainfield Township Cemetery.
