Kansas City Royals
KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals today announced they have acquired right-handed pitcher Easton McGee from the Milwaukee Brewers for cash considerations. McGee was designated for assignment by the Brewers last week. He has been optioned to Triple-A Omaha.
To make room for McGee on the 40-man roster, the Royals transferred right-handed pitcher Nick Mears to the 60-day Injured List.
McGee, 28, had two stints with the Brewers this season, from April 10-17 and May 1-3, and appeared in 2 games with the big league club, recording 2.0 scoreless innings with 1 strikeout. His other 25 appearances (4 starts) this year came with Triple-A Nashville, where he pitched to a 5.62 ERA (26 ER in 41.2 IP) with 43 strikeouts (22.5 K%).
Since the start of 2025, he’s gone 9-2 with a 4.53 ERA (45 ER in 89.1 IP) with Triple-A Nashville, while holding opponents to a .239 batting average (83-for-347).
He debuted with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2022 and has made 13 career outings (1 start) in the Majors, posting a 3.08 ERA (9 ER in 26.1 IP) with 17 strikeouts. McGee made a career-high 9 appearances in 2025 with Milwaukee, 5 of which were scoreless.
He was selected by the Rays in the 4th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Hopkinsville High School (Ky.). McGee made his Major League debut with the Rays on Oct. 2, 2022, was claimed off waivers by Boston three days later and was traded to Seattle a month after that. He signed with Milwaukee as a free agent in November 2023, and the Royals will now become his fifth different organization.
