With the USD 489 bond election less than a month away, time is quickly running out for interested parties to register to vote in the special election is they have not previously registered.

The election for the $143.5 million USD 489 bond is set for May 10 for voters within the district.

The deadline to register to vote in the bond election is Tuesday, April 19.

Ellis County Clerk and Election official Bobbie Dreiling encouraged people who were not sure if they are registered to reach out to her office for more information.

You can also find registration information, along with relevant election information on the election’s page on the county website at Ellisco.net.

Mail-in advanced ballots will go out to people who requested them starting April 20 and early voting begins April 25.

Advanced, in-person voting will continue through May 9 at 12 p.m. at the Ellis County Administrative Center, 718 Main St., Hays.

There are two questions on the USD 489 bond election ballot.

Every voter within the city limits of Hays will vote on both the $143.5 bond proposal and the half-cent sales tax within the city of Hays to help the USD 489 district repay the bond.

For residents that live outside the city limits of Hays, voters will be able to vote only on the bond proposal.

You can find out if you live within the district by viewing the map of school district in Ellis County or by contacting the election’s office.
