Monarchs split two games in Great Bend

GREAT BEND - The TMP-Marian Monarchs 18U baseball team split their doubleheader at the Great Bend triangular Tuesday at the Great Bend Sports Complex. The Monarchs rallied to beat the Pratt 86ers 10-7 before falling 1o-5 to the host Great Bend Chiefs.

The Monarchs are now 8-6 on the season. They host Larned in a doubleheader Thursday at the TMP Field.

Monarchs 10, Pratt 7
Jace Wentling went 3-for-4 with two triples and five RBIs. His first inning triple drove in a run to give TMP the early lead. Wentling later hit a bases-loaded triple which gave the Monarchs the lead in the top of the fifth.

Wentling picked up the win on the mound. He went four innings and gave up five runs (three earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts and five walks.

Great Bend 10, Hays 5
The Monarchs scored five runs in the top of the first inning and led 5-4 until Great Bend scored six in the fourth.

The Chiefs (5-5) took advantage of an error, two walks and a hit batter to start what turned out to be the decisive fourth inning.

TMP walked five and committed two errors in the big frame.

Jace Wentling drove in two of the Monarchs five runs in the first and finished with two hits.

Nick Herman allowed six runs (one earned) on one hit over 1 2/3 innings of relief and suffered the loss.
