LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Max Flowers had four hits and reached base safely six times, Tanner Norman drove in three runs and Rayner Beene hit a go-ahead two-run home runs as the Hays Larks rallied from an early four-run deficit to beat the Colorado Lumberjax 15-5 in their season opener Monday at All-Star Park.
The Lumberjax (0-1, 0-1 RMBL), playing in their first season in the Rocky Mountain Baseball League, scored three in the second and one in the third but the Larks (1-0, 1-0 RMBL) answered with three in the fourth, three in the fifth, two in the sixth then blew the game open with six in the eighth.
Sean Keenan (Murray State College), Brand Wilson (Redlands CC) and Cade Green (Colorado Mesa) all had RBI singles in the third. Max Flowers (Hutchinson CC) tied the game with an RBI single in the fifth. Beene (Murray State College) followed with a two-run homer to put the Larks ahead for good.
Braden Cox (Colorado Mesa) pitched two hitless innings of relief and picked up the win. Starting pitcher Simon Lunsford (Colorado Mesa) allowed four runs on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Hunter Cowgill (Gateway CC) allowed one run on no hits with three strikeouts and four walks over the final two innings
