Letha L. Lowdon

Letha L. Lowdon, 98, a long time resident of Downs, KS passed away on November 26, 2020 in Akron, OH.  She was born on October 22, 1922 on the family farm in Jewell, KS to Joseph & Gladys (Blacker) McDill.  Letha was one of several children.

Letha attended the North Star School, a one room grammar school in Jewell. After she graduated from Jewell High School, she attended Kansas State University.  She graduated in 1944 from KSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and received a lifetime teaching certificate.  Letha taught in the Russell and Downs schools, as well as at the Girls Industiral School in Beloit, KS.

On September 4, 1947, Letha married Burnell Lowdon.  To this union three children were born.  Letha and Burnell celebrated 62 years together before Burnell passed away.

Letha loved gardening.  She was active with the local 4-H unit while her children were growing up.  Letha enjoyed going salmon fishing with Burnell in Washington & Alaska.  She was also very involved in their farm work and loved it very much.

Letha was preceded in death by her husband, Burnell, daughter-in-law Mary (Culver) Lowdon, and a sister Twila (McDill) Schafer.

Letha  is survived by three children: Corey (Judith) Lowdon of Independence, KS; Jane (Mark) Cironi of Fairlawn, OH; Kelly (Pamela) Lowdon of Lakewood, CO; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister: Alma McDill.
