The rain started early Thursday morning in Hays and continued falling over night.
The result as officially measured Friday morning at the K-State Agriculture Research Center south of town was 1.48 inches of rain.
That brings the monthly precipitation to 1.71 inches as of Dec. 14, well above normal. The average total for Dec. in Hays is 0.67 inches.
Hays still remains about 1.5 inches below normal for annual precipitation So far in 2023, Hays has received 21.26 inches of precipitation. The 154-year cumulative annual average is 22.78 inches.
