LIBERAL - The Hays High Indians swept a doubleheader in Liberal on Thursday.  The Indians sweep the doubleheader 4-3 in eight innings and 5-3 and is now 6-10 overall and 6-4 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Hays returns to action on Friday at home with a single game with Garden City. The junior varsity will play at 4 p.m. with the varsity to follow around 6 p.m.. The varsity game will be broadcast on 96.9 KFIX with the Hertz Pregame Show around 5:45 p.m.. The game will also be video streamed on Hays Post.

Game 1: Hays 4, Liberal 3 (8 innings)
Hays scored two in the top of the seventh to tie Liberal and then a run in the top of the eighth.

Hays found some two-out magic in the top of the seventh. Casen Hardman reached on an error to open the inning. Paxton Shaw then singled with two out and Dreher continued to swing a hot bat with a two-run double, tying the game at three runs.

Liberal had two on with no outs in the bottom of the seventh but failed to score.

The Indians scored the game winning run in the top of the eighth. A one-out single by Jennings was followed by a two out single by Hardman. Jesse Taggart entered the game as a pinch runner for Jennings and scored on an error for the decisive fourth run. 

Liberal again had their chances. The Redskins had two on with nobody out in the bottom of the eighth and then loaded the bases with one out. Kal Lonsdale induced the final two outs on a infield fly ball and strikeout to end the game.

The Redskins scored two in the bottom of the second inning for the first runs of the game. Hays scored their first run in the top of fourth inning. Jace Dreher led of the frame with a single. A Liberal error and Cade Jennings single loaded the bases. Nash Kaiser entered the game as a courtesy runner and stole home for a 2-1 score.

Liberal got the run back in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to a bases loaded walk for their second two run lead at 3-1.

Dreher and Jennings each recorded two hits. Paxton Shaw pitched seven innings for the win. He stuck out six, walked four, allowed nine hits while giving up three runs. Kal Landsale earned the save facing four batters over one inning of work.

Game 2: Hays 5, Liberal 3
Hays (6-10, 6-4) overcame four errors in the second game for a 5-3 victory.

The Indians scored in the second, third and fourth innings for a 4-2 lead midway through the game. Beau Dreiling singled with one out then scored on a fielder's choice in the second inning.

Kal Lonsdale opened the third inning with a double and then Jace Dreher ripped a triple to left field two batters later to score Lonsdale, giving Hays a 2-0 edge.

Hays scored two runs with two outs in the top of the fourth after watching Liberal (9-11, 2-5) score their first run. Londale single to drive in Casen Hardman. Paxton Shaw did the same to score Jarek Purdy for a 4-1 lead.

Liberal tallied a single mark in the bottom of the fifth. Hays got it right back in the sixth. Purdy scored for a second time. This time on a steal of home at 5-2. Liberal did score a run in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch. Dreiling notched a strikeout for the game's final out.

Lonsdale recorded three hits and Dreiling had two. Cade Jennings went 6.2 innings for the victory. He allowed three runs, one earned, six hits, walked four and struck out six. He was lifted after hitting the 105 pitch limit. Dreiling picked up the save by recording the final out.
