⚽ Early goal holds up, Tigers turn away Peacocks in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State improved to 2-0 on the season with a 1-0 win over Upper Iowa on Sunday evening in a neutral site match. A goal just over 30 seconds into the match by Fabian Gylden Svensson was all the Tigers needed as they kept the Peacocks out of net for the team's first clean sheet of the season. Upper Iowa moved to 0-1-1 on the season.

The Tigers dominated the shot count 21-9 and placed six of their attempts on target. Five were saved by UIU goalkeeper Diogo Cardoso. Jorge Valentin picked up a shutout win in goal for the Tigers, making one save in the 19th minute.

Tadgh Walsh picked up his third assist of the season on the Gylden Svensson goal after notching two in the season opener back on Thursday. He and Bastian Carlman led the team for with four shots each in the match.

UP NEXT

Fort Hays State will make a return trip to Kansas City on Thursday (Sept. 12) to the same venue (Children's Mercy Victory Field at Swope Soccer Village) to face nationally ranked Maryville University at 8 p.m.
