Leonard J. 'Lenny' Dinkel

Leonard J. “Lenny” Dinkel, 62, Hays, died Thursday, February 10, 2022, at his home.

He was born March 6, 1959, in WaKeeney, the son of Ralph and Rubina (Scheck) Dinkel.  He grew up in Oakley and was a graduate of Oakley High School in 1977.  On May 26, 1979, Lenny was united in marriage to Christine A. Hoover at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Grinnell.  He worked in the oilfield and was production manager for Gore Oil Company.  He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and H.O.G., the Harley Owners Group.  He proudly attended his grandson's sporting events, and enjoyed fishing, motorcycling, and driving his 2016 Challenger.  He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and NASCAR fan, who looked forward to attending the races with his wife in Kansas City twice a year.

Survivors include his wife Christine of Hays, two daughters: Krystal Randa and husband David of Hays and Kelsie Bausch and husband Trevor of Basehor, two brothers: David Dinkel and wife Linda of Olathe, and Richard Dinkel and wife Jan of Hays, a sister-in-law: Dina Dinkel of Oakley, grandchildren: Kenton Randa, Paisley Randa, Oliver Bausch, and one due in April, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Larry Dinkel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Elias Chinzara officiating.  Private family inurnment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday and from 10:00 am until 10:45 on Tuesday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.  A vigil service will be at 6:30 pm followed by a rosary at 7:00, both on Monday at the funeral home.
