Hays receives 1.24 inches of rain, more expected this weekend

Hays received 1.24 inches of rain from Thursday through 8 a.m. Friday, according to the K-State Ag Research Center.

More rain is in the forecast for this weekend.

The National Weather Service is predicting a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Friday with a  high near 83 in Hays.

Showers and thunderstorms will be likely, mainly after 11 Friday night.  The chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts are predicted between a quarter and half of an inch.

Saturday there's a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before noon. The forecast then calls for cloudy skies, gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 78.

The NWS predicts the weather to clear for the rest of the Labor Day weekend with a high of 82 Sunday and 88 on Monday.

Hays' average rainfall for September is 2.22 inches. The city has received 23.89 inches of precipitation year to date compared to an average of 19.95 inches by the end of September.
