
Edmund Lee Herl, 84 passed away on May 18th, 2021, at Hays Medical Center following a prolonged illness.
Lee was born February 24, 1937, in his grandmother’s home near Angelus, KS to Jack and Anna (Dickman) Herl.
He grew up near Leoville, KS and was the second of five children,
which included brothers Jim Herl (deceased) Patrick Herl, Bill Herl, and
sister Mary Lou Schlick.
Lee graduated from Leoville Rural High School in 1955. Following
graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and reached a
rank of Specialist 4th Class. Lee was a tank driver with the 41st
Armored Division of the 8th Infantry and was exceptionally proud of his
military service. Throughout the years, he kept in regular contact with
those he served with and enjoyed their reunions in Branson, MO.
Following his military service, Lee spent the majority of his life as a
farmer / rancher near Hoxie, KS and loved nothing more than being
outside, tending the land and cattle. Lee was especially fond of the
polka dances that he attended with his friends. Where ever there was a
Polka Dance, you could find Lee kicking up his heels.
Lee was married to Caroleta Rebarchek and four sons came from this
union. He is survived by these four sons, their wives, and fourteen
grandchildren: Dennis & Brenda (Dean and Drue) of Colby, KS; David
& Helen (Dexter, Derek, Kimberly, Darius, and Chase) of Grainfield,
KS; Dale & Rebecca (Jordyn, Dawson, Dayne, and Jayden) of
Independence, MO; and Darrin & Korey (Draden, Jaylen, and Jenna) of
Hoxie, KS.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Jack & Anna Herl, brother Jim Herl, and daughter-in-law Melissa (Ochs) Herl.
Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Park, Kansas on Friday, May 21, 2021, 3:00 P.M. He will be laid to
rest in the Grainfield Cemetery immediately following the service.
Visitation and the Rosary Service will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2021
at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie, Kansas from 1:00 P.M. until
7:00 P.M with the Rosary Service starting at 7:00 P.M. The family will
receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until time for the Rosary. In lieu of
flowers, memorials are suggested to the Sunflower Polka Club. Memorials
