OLATHE, Kan. – The Hays High softball team opened the 2025 season with a pair of wins over Olathe East Saturday. The Indians took game one 9-3 then took the second contest 10-5.
Game 1: Hays 9, Olathe East 3
Hays used a six-run third inning to take the lead for good. Adeline Kippes
drove in the first run when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Riley
Dreher was also hit by a pitch which gave the Indians a 2-1 lead. Brooklynn Dinkel
drove in two with a double. Another run scored on an Alyse Zimmerman groundout.
Dinkel scored the final run of the frame on a passed ball.
Dreher added a two-run triple an inning later to push the lead to 8-1. Zimmerman had a bunt single in the fifth which scored Dinkel for a 9-1 lead.
Dreher allowed one run on three hits with seven strikeouts and four walks over four innings for the win. Lanie Becker pitched the final three innings.
Game 2: Hays 10, Olathe East 5
The Indians scored in every inning but one and never trailed. Four of the runs
came off of Hawks errors.
Hays scored three in the first, one in the third then two in the fourth and fifth for an 8-0 lead. They added another in the top of the sixth before Olathe East answered with four in the bottom of the sixth to pull within 9-4. Alyse Zimmerman drove in an insurance run with an RBI triple in the top of the seventh.
Riley Dreher had three hits and scored three runs. Brynlee Brous added two hits and drove in two runs.
Riley Dreher allowed no runs on one hits with three strikeouts and three walks and picked up her second win of the day.
