Erma Mae Pfeifer

On July 25, 2020, Erma Mae Pfeifer passed away at the Rhode Island Suites nursing home in Ransom, Kansas.  She was born on January 2, 1929, at West Saline in Sheridan County, Kansas, to Alfred E. and Elsie (Adamson) Mills.  She was the youngest of six children:  Edward, Elbert, Evelyn, Elwood and Eva. 

She grew up on a farm near Palco, Kansas but moved with her mother to Hoxie, Kansas during WWII.  After the war, she met handsome army veteran Marcel Pfeifer, the love of her life.  They were married on December 26, 1946, in Seguin, Kansas.  Marcel and Erma eventually settled on a farm on the north fork the Solomon River near Studley, Kansas.  They had eight children while on the farm.  Marcel was an excellent farmer and Erma was his full partner in the enterprise.  In 1979, they sold the farm and moved to Hays, Kansas where they built their dream home on Thunderbird Drive.  Erma took a job at JC Penney that she loved.  Erma was a social person and loved helping customers and visiting with them.  Penney’s recognized Erma’s high quality and devoted service to the company with several awards that she was proud to receive. 

Erma and Marcel were married for 64 years when Marcel passed away in 2010.   She is survived by Linda Deines and husband Dan of Manhattan, Brenda Bell and husband Ron of Manhattan, Marcella Bailey and husband Glen of Dodge City, Theresa Reeves and husband Jim of Oberlin, Roberta Eberle and husband Ted of Glen Elder, Brent Pfeifer of Dallas, Texas, and Shirley Logsdon and husband Max of Emporia.  She had ten grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her son Brian Pfeifer. 

Services will be held Friday July 31st, 1:00 PM at Brocks-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, Kansas.  Inurnment at St. Joseph Cemetery to follow.
