PHILLIPS COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a man after a standoff in Phillips County.

Just after 6p.m. Friday, sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a suspicious subject in the 1200 block of Cable Road in Phillips County, according to a media release.

Deputies attempted to make contact with the subject shortly after their arrival. As they approached the residence door, a gunshot was heard from inside. The deputies took cover and called for assistance. Neither deputy was injured.

Attempts to contact the subject, later identified as 62-year-old Russell Hosier of Phillipsburg were unsuccessful and numerous gunshots were fired inside the residence.

Deputies did not return fire and asked for assistance from the Kansas Highway Patrol and numerous Troopers responded.

At approximately 1:15 a.m. the Hosier surrendered without incident. Deputies booked him on requested charges of Aggravated Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer, Criminal Damage to Property and Criminal Discharge of a Firearm. He remains in custody with a $70,000 bond.
