Hays 34 - #3-6A Washburn Rural 27
Points were at a premium but Hays High had just a few more than Washburn Rural winning by five 34-27. Rural's only lead was at 2-0. The score was tied at five before the Indians took a lead on a three pointer at 8-5. The game was never tied again.
The Indians held Rural to two points in the second quarter and built their lead to 20-9 at halftime.
Rural scored the first five points of the third quarter while Hays took 4:12 to score their first points of the second half. A three point play start the Indians on a 7-0 spurt and a 27-14 advantage.
Hays lead by 13 again in the early fourth when Washburn Rural went on a 10-0 run and closed the game down to three at 30-27 with :54.1 left on the clock. The Indians however didn't yield any more points and made all four of their free throws to win 34-27.
Eight different player scored for the Indians with none reaching double figures. Hays is 2-0 and will play 2-0 Olathe West in the championship of the Shootout at 5:00 on Saturday evening.

Life Prep 44 - Hays 36
Hays High nearly over came a ten point second half deficit before falling to Life Prep Academy 44-36 in the championship semifinals.
Life Prep jumped out to a five point, 8-3 lead before Hays fired back from behind the arc to take a 12-11 lead after one quarter. The Indians biggest lead would be just two points at 15-13 and 18-16. The Fire grabbed the lead at 19-18 and never trailed again.
Life Prep led by five at halftime and pushed their advantage to ten in the third quarter at 31-21 with three minutes on the clock. Hays chipped away at the lead until it was down to one point at 31-30 with 5:06 left in the fourth quarter. The Indians though never possessed the ball in the fourth quarter while down by one possession as Life Prep wins 44-36.
Jack Weimer led the Indians with 20 points as they fall to 1-1 on the season. Life Prep is now 2-1 and will take on Hugoton in the championship at 7:00. Hays will play for third place against Millwood at 3:15.
