JOPLIN, Mo. - Two runners from the Fort Hays State women's cross country team earned All-MIAA honors Saturday morning (Nov. 5) at the 2022 MIAA Championships, helping the Tigers to a fifth-place finish out of the 13 league teams. Missouri Southern hosted this year's six-kilometer championship race at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.
Regan Hodsden led the Tigers to the line for the third race in a row, finishing sixth in 21:14.8 to collect All-MIAA status. Joining Hodsden on the all-conference podium was teammate Darian Hudgeons, who placed 12th with a time of 21:47.0.
Jaycee Vath finished in 30th place after traversing the course in 22:25.9, while Elizabeth Fender was less than 10 seconds behind in 37th with a time of 22:34.0. Brooke Navarro rounded out the Tiger top five in 50th after crossing the line in 23:05.4.
Pittsburg State won the team title with 51 points, while Northwest Missouri State's Caroline Cunningham (20:39.6) and Amber Owens (20:50.6) went 1-2 individually.
Earlier in the day it was announced that FHSU's Hannah Wiebe was the winner of the first-ever MIAA Women's Cross Country "A Game" Scholar Award.
The Tigers will return to Joplin in two weeks (Nov. 19) for the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships, with the women's 6K commencing at 11:15 a.m.
