
WICHITA - After being held to only 22 points in the first half, the Fort Hays State women exploded for 31 in the third quarter and blew past Newman 68-48 Saturday afternoon at Fugate Gymnasium.
The Tigers (2-0, 2-0 MIAA)went scoreless in the 5:09 of the second quarter and led 22-21 at the half. After the Jets made the first basket of the third quarter to take a 23-22 lead, the Tigers scored the next 12 points and never looked back, pushing the lead to as many as 26 early in the fourth.
After being held to 25-percent shooting in the first half, went 10-for-15 from the floor in the third period including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc.
Whitney Randall led four Tigers in double-figures with 15 points. Jaden Hobbs went 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and scored 12, freshman Sydney Golladay hit a couple of third quarter threes during the decisive run and scored all of her 11 points in the second half while pulling down six rebounds and dishing out three assists.. Cydney Bergman added 10 points.
FHSU travels to Edmond, Oklahoma to play Central Oklahoma Tuesday at 6:00 pm.
