Gerald Earl Casper, 75, of Hays, KS, passed away on September 16, 2025, at Good Samaritan's in Hays. He was born on June 19, 1950, to Elmer and Ida (Galliart) Casper. He married Katherine J. 'Kathy' Wiebe on April 23, 1994, and they shared the last 31 years together in a happy and loving marriage, she survives.

Gerald worked in road construction and served as superintendent of KDOT for 40 years. He was known for his strong work ethic, as well as his love of golf, gardening and watching sports.

Survivors include his three sons: Richard Casper, Chris (Jenny) Casper, and Scott (Amy) Casper; his father, Elmer Casper; his sister, Trina (Leon) Feil; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and in-laws, Helen (Dan) Gough, Mary (JD) Eilerts, David (Vicky) Wiebe, Jim (Barb) Wiebe, Don (Judy) Wiebe, Carol (Barry) Saengerhausen and Mark (Mitzi) Wiebe.

Gerald was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Casper; his previous wife, Shirley Letsch, with whom he had three sons; and his sister-in-law Betsy (Wiebe) DevoreCremation has taken place.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Halstead, KS, with Father Roger Lumbre presiding. Inurnment will be in Halstead Cemetery.

Gerald, known as 'Mr. Nature' to friends, loved animals, and memorials may be made to the Humane Society of the High Plains, Hays, in care of Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead, KS, his memory.
