Ramona Eileen Birdsong was born September 9, 1935, the fourth child of Clifford and Lottie (Allen) Bisbee at their home in Bucklin, Kansas. She passed away December 15, 2020, at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in Wakeeney, Kansas.
Ramona was raised in Bucklin, where her father taught in local schools and her parents later owned a variety store. She grew up attending the Methodist Church and enjoying small town life. After one year of college at Fort Hays College, she married Dwight (Red) Birdsong in her parents’ living room. This was the beginning of many adventures. They soon added a daughter to their family and nearly 3 years later, a son. For 31 years of Ramona’s life, she followed her husband across the west, living in one oil boom town after another. Along the way, she discovered she was a good secretary and that she liked Oklahoma City. She remained in Oklahoma City following her divorce in 1986 until 2009 when she moved to Wakeeney. Everywhere she lived, Ramona found what was best in that community, grew beautiful flowers, and made lifelong friends.
Survivors include her daughter Karen Madorin (Mel) of Dubois, WY and WaKeeney, KS; son Ronald Kent Birdsong (Tammy) of Vega, Texas; two granddaughters, Anne Coon and Kelli Sprague (Cord); two step-grandchildren Tiffany Powers (Matt) and Matt Horton (Vayle); four great grand-children; six step great-grandchildren; sister Iris Cook in Bucklin, KS; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Bud; and sister Wanda.
Ramona bloomed where she was planted. No matter where she was, she made life better for others around her.
Inurnment will take place in Ford, KS, attended by her immediate family.
