Hays Police Department
At about 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, the Hays Police Department was alerted to an injury accident at the intersection of 13th and Elm streets in Hays.
Responding officers discovered two pedestrians had been struck by an eastbound vehicle on 13th Street while they were crossing southbound in the crosswalk, where they had the right of way.
The impact caused the pedestrians to be thrown about 40 feet.
Both individuals were taken to the hospital for medical attention.
The driver received a citation for failing to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk, and alcohol was ruled out as a contributing factor in the accident.
