
Joel Chamu-Garcia, 50, died March 21, 2022, at the Hays Medical Center, Hays. He was born on June 13, 1971, at Mexico City, Mexico, the son of Martin Berrum-Chamu and Guadalupe Garcia-Sosa.
Joel lived in Escondido, California before moving to Dodge City with his family in 1988. He worked at Cargill and National Beef while he lived in Dodge City. Joel later traveled the United States where he enjoyed fishing in as many lakes and rivers as he could. He enjoyed morning sunrises, warm sunny days and also music and dancing. Joel moved back to Dodge City five years ago and has resided here since.
He attended the First Christian Church of Dodge City.
Joel is survived by his father, Martin Berrum-Chamu,Sr of Fall Brook, California; mother, Guadalupe Garcia-Sosa of Dodge City; two brothers, Martin Chamu, Jr and Marcelino Chamu; and four sisters, Elodia Chamu, Maria Felts, Esther Chamu, and Ruth Chamu. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jose "Tony" Chamu.
Funeral service will be held at First Christian Church on Monday March 28, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Dusty Cookson presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Sunday March 27, 2022, from Noon to 6:00 PM.
