RUSSELL – The TMP-Marian softball team ran their winning streak to four games Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Russell/Victoria. The Monarchs held on to win the opener 9-7 then took game two 14-4.
TMP has won seven of their last nine and improves to 10-6 on the season. They play two in Colby Thursday then close out the regular season with a makeup doubleheader in Great Bend Friday.
Game 1: TMP-Marian 9, Russell/Victoria 7
The Broncos scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run at the plate before a pickoff stopped the rally and gave the Monarchs the win.
TMP scored two in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to grab a 6-1 lead then tallied three in the top of the seventh for a 9-1 lead.
Julianna Baalmann’s two-run single gave the Monarchs a 2-0 lead in the fourth.
Hannah Garcia drove in a run with a double and Brooke Koeningsman knocked in
the second in the fifth with a triple. Garcia drove in two more runs with a
triple in the sixth to put TMP up 6-1.
The Monarchs scored on an error, an Alexa Ryersee double and a Madison Augustine single to go up 9-1 in the seventh.
Augustine allowed five earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts and four walks for the win.
Game 2: TMP-Marian 14,
Russell/Victoria 4 (5 innings)
The Monarchs scored five in the first, four in the second and two in the third
for an early 11-2 lead then put the game away with three in fifth.
Alexa Ryersee went 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and a triple and drove in five runs.
Madison Augustine allowed one earned run on two hits with one strikeout and two walks for the win.
