HAYS – The Hays High baseball team closed out their regular season with a pair of home wins over Ulysses Tuesday. The Indians took the opener 4-0 then rallied to win the second contest 6-5. They are end the regular season 12-8 and will find out who and when they play in next week’s regional tournament on Saturday.
Game 1: Hays 4, Ulysses 0
Dylan Dreiling hit a solo homer to put the Indians on the board in the fourth
then Hays scored three in the fifth for the final margin.
Dreiling towering one-out shot to right was his school-record 10th of the season.
Bradyn Dreher led off the fifth with a double and scored on Derek Riggs single to push the lead to 2-0. Carson Spray drove in the Indians third run with a sacrifice fly. Noah Weimer closed out the scoring with a single to left.
Garrett Wellbrock improved to 5-1 with the complete game shutout. The senior scattered three hits while matching a season-high eight strikeouts and three walks.
Game 2: Hays 6, Ulysses 5
Dylan Dreiling scored on a balk to cap a two-out, three-run rally in the
fourth. Dreiling drove in the first two runs of the inning with a double.
Keaton Barnett overcame a shaky start and picked up the win in his first varsity start allowing four earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
Junior Toby May pitched two innings of hitless relief for the save.
Dreiling and Noah Weimer both went 2-for-3 and combined to drive in three of the Indians six runs.
