
James Calvin 'Jim' Hart, 87, Hays, died Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at HaysMed surrounded by his family.
He was born November 5, 1937 in Russell, the son of Ewing Calvin and Bertha May (Laubhan) Hart. In 1956, he graduated from Hays High School then enlisted and served in the U.S. Marine Corps until 1958. On January 28, 1961 he was united in marriage to Peggy Regagnon in Hays, and they celebrated 64 years of marriage. Jim worked for Central Kansas Power Company and was a campus police officer at Fort Hays State University, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and adored his dogs.
Survivors include his wife Peggy of Hays, three sons, Brett Hart and wife Kim of Derby, Bradley Hart and wife Kellie of Courtland, and Bryant Hart of Hays, two brothers, Bill Hart and wife Nancy of Raytown, Missouri, and Tom Hart of Russell, a sister, Nancy Sullivan of Olathe, one granddaughter, Breann Mackley of Goodland, and three great grandchildren, Rilan, Tatum, and Lettie Mackley, all of Colby.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant twin sister Jeannie Carol Hart.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Messiah Lutheran Church with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Inurnment will follow in Mt. Allen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 7:00 on Friday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 9:00 am until service time on Saturday at the church.
