Margery Jean Frusher

Margery Jean Frusher, age 101, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 17, 2021, at Cedar Village, Ness City, Kansas. She was born Nov. 3, 1920, in Salina, to Vance and Bessie Magdalena (Sloan) Russell.

She was raised on the family ranch, west of Fredonia and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1938. After finishing business school, she enrolled at K-State University in 1941 where she met William A. “Bill” Frusher. They married Oct. 16, 1943.  After Bill was honorably discharged from the Navy, they returned to Ness County to help with the family farm. Bill and Margery had four sons. Bill passed away on Sept 10, 1957.

After her sons were in school, Margery graduated from St. Mary’s of the Plains with an elementary education degree. She taught at the Bazine Grade School for 20 years.

Margery was very active in many organizations and clubs. She was a lifetime member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Delta Cappa Gamma and DAR. She joined the Ness County Historical Society in 1990 and served as president for 13 years. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the Reading Group.

Margery was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Ness City and taught ladies’ Sunday school for many years.

Margery was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William A; her son, William J; brothers, Orlin and Lee; sisters, Dorothy Ann, Betty, and Margaret.

Margery is survived by sons, Stephen Frusher and his wife, Margaret of Rapid City, S.D., David Frusher of House, N.M. and Thomas Frusher and his wife, Susan of Ness City; sister, June Huerter of Kansas City, Kan.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Ness City United Methodist Church, Ness County Historical Museum, Ness City Library, or donor’s choice
