Clifford J. “Cliff” Kreutzer, 84, Ellis, died Saturday, February 22, 2025, at his home.

He was born February 26, 1940, in Yocemento, the son of Aloysius Jr. “Aloys” and Cecelia (Braun) Kreutzer.  Cliff grew up on the family farm north of Ellis and attended the one-room Locust Grove School.

In 1959, he was united in marriage to Katharine Zimmerman, and they were blessed with four children, Douglas, Rebecca, Rosalind, and Rita Mae.  On May 9, 1981, he was united in marriage to Nancy A. Bice in Plainville. 

They celebrated 43 years of marriage and were blessed with two children, Joseph and Jessica.  Cliff was a cattle rancher and farmer, worked in the oil field for 43 years, and did construction work.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, loved animals, especially cats, and enjoyed camping, fishing, and bird watching.  Cliff was a talented singer and musician who played the accordion, harmonica, and guitar.

He liked polka music and playing in a band with his uncle.  Most of all, Cliff loved his wife, children, and grandchildren unconditionally.

Survivors include his wife Nancy of the home, two sons, Douglas Kreutzer and wife Pam of Hays and Joseph Kreutzer of Ellis, four daughters, Rebecca Herzog and husband Arthur of Hays, Rosalind Werth and husband Craig of Hays, Rita Mae Hefner and husband Michael of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jessica Kreutzer of Hays, two brothers, Nicholas Kreutzer of Bloomington, IN and Francis Kreutzer of Ellis, a sister, Elizabeth Kreutzer of Ellis, a sister-in-law, Susan Augustine and husband Bruce of Plainville, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Katharine, a sister, Cecelia Crawford, a sister-in-law, Ruth Kreutzer, and three grandsons, Derreck L., Devin A., and Dexter B. Urban.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, February 28, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis with Fr. Dana Clark officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hyacinth Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Thursday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 9:00 am until service time on Friday at the church.

A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:30 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to the Humane Society of the High Plains.
