KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced today they have acquired right-handed pitcher Nolan Hoffman from the Philadelphia Phillies for right-handed pitcher Manuel Colón. Hoffman was designated for assignment by Philadelphia earlier today.
To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Connor Seabold was transferred to the 60-day Injured List.
Hoffman, who will turn 29 on Sunday, has posted a 3.86 ERA (2 ER in 4.2 IP) in 3 relief appearances across three stints with the Phillies this season. He has spent the majority of the year at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, where he went 1-4 with a 4.72 ERA (18 ER in 34.1 IP) and 40 strikeouts (10.5 K/9) in 30 relief outings.
He was selected by Seattle in the 5th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas A&M University and has pitched in the Mariners (2018-21), Orioles (2022-24), Rangers (2025) and Phillies (2025-26) organizations. Hoffman made his Major League debut last Aug. 18 vs. Seattle, which was his only outing at the Major League level last year.
Colón, 19, went 2-1 with a 5.83 ERA (19 ER in 29.1 IP) in 22 appearances between the ACL Royals (20) and Class-A Columbia (2) this season. He was signed by the Royals on Feb. 27, 2024 as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic.
