The hot and dry weather continues in Ellis County and most of Kansas.
A heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Dodge City is in effect today through Sunday until 8 p.m. for Ellis County and many counties to the east.
This week's U.S. drought monitor released Thursday shows about 30% of the state in the severe category.
Nearly all of Ellis County, including Hays, is rated abnormally dry with the southeast corner of the county in moderate drought.
Wednesday's high in Hays was 103 degrees, according to the K-State Agricultural Research Center. The record high for Sept. 2 in Hay was considerably higher at 111 degrees in 1947.
Hays' average rainfall during September is 2.24 inches. No precipitation has been measured yet this month.
The three-day weather forecast calls for continued temperatures at the century mark with no precipitation expected.
