City of Hays
At around 4 p.m. today, the Hays Police Department received a bomb threat targeting the police department.
The call was quickly transferred to the Ellis County Communications Center, where it was determined to likely be a fraudulent "swatting" call.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Hays Public Library was evacuated, and officers maintained a heavy presence in the area.
"We are happy to report that all children were safely reunited with their families, and no suspects or threats were found. Normal operations resumed at both the library and the police department at 4:45 p.m.," a city Facebook post said.
There is no active threat to our community, the post said.
"The safety of our residents is our top priority, and we thank you for your cooperation and patience this afternoon," the post said.
"We are continuing to investigate the incident," the post said.
