⚾ Junior Legion eliminated from zone tourney

CLAY CENTER – The Hays Eagles Junior American Legion was held to three hits and was eliminated from the Clay Center A Zone Tournament after a 6-1 loss to McPherson Saturday evening. The Eagles finished 0-2 in the zone and saw their season end with a 5-16-1 record.

After tying the game with a run in the second, Hays was held to one hit and only had two base runners the rest of the game.

The Eagles scored their only run on a Gunner Cox groundout which scored Conner Dreiling from second. Dreiling, Bradyn Dreher and Cooper Sanders had the only hits for Hays.

The Bullpups broke the 1-1 tie with two in the third then added three in the fourth for the final margin.

Nolan Dreher struck out six over six innings but took the loss.

SENIOR LEGION PLAYS TUESDAY

The schedule for the Hays Eagles Senior American Legion AAA Zone Tournament in Great Bend was released Saturday. The Eagles (17-4) are the No. 1 seed and received a first-round bye. They will play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 20 against the winner of the game between Great Bend (15-7) and Newton who play at 5:00 p.m. All games will be played at Lawson-Biggs Field at Barton CC. The winner of the zone tournament advances to the state tournament in Pittsburg.

Tuesday, July 20
Game 1: Great Bend (15-7) vs. Newton (11-11), 5:00 p.m.
Game 2: Hays (17-4) vs. Game 1 winner, 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, July 21
Game 3: Game 1 loser vs. Game 2 loser, 5:00 p.m.
Game 4: Game 2 winner vs. Game 3 winner, 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, July 22
Game 5: (if necessary), 6:00 p.m.
