
Ellis County Fire Department
At 11:21 p.m., Thursday, August 22, the Ellis County Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 2300 East 7th Street, Lot 31.
Upon arrival at 11:28 p.m., the structure was found fully engulfed and reported as an abandoned structure.
Fire crews fought the fire defensively by keeping firefighters out of the structure while extinguishing the fire and protecting other nearby homes. Fire crews used two attack lines to extinguish the fire and reported the fire under control at 12:10 a.m.
The home was a complete loss. Due to the amount of damage, the cause of the fire could not be determined.
Fire crews remained on scene until 2:14 a.m. to ensure the fire was out and to pick up equipment.
Twenty-eight firefighters from the Ellis County Fire Department responded to the scene from Hays, Ellis, and Victoria.
The location was within the automatic aid response area for the Hays Fire Department, and they responded with seven additional firefighters. The ECFD was assisted by Midwest Energy, Ellis County EMS, and several sheriff’s deputies.
