Carolyn Givens

Carolyn (Valk) Givens was born May 9, 1933, in Larned, Kansas, the daughter of Earl and Vivian Valk. She passed away on September 1, 2021,  in Hillsboro, Kansas at the age of 88.

She was a 1951 graduate of Larned High School and a member of the First Christian Church in Pawnee Rock, Kansas.

She married Charles Givens, August 27, 1950, in Larned, Kansas. For many years, they lived on a farm southwest of Pawnee Rock, and later moved to Larned and Great Bend. Carolyn worked as an account clerk in the Reimbursement Office at Larned State Hospital for many years. She was an accomplished painter of ceramic, having sold many pieces locally, and, later on, internationally.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two infant sons.

Survivors include: two sons, David (Carla) Givens of Hillsboro, Robert (Greg Coykendall) Givens of Wichita; sister, Linda (LeRoy) Wilson of Cheney, Kansas; granddaughters, Angie Margritz of Hillsboro, Renee (Jonah) Gehring of Hillsboro, Kayla (Josh) Jones of Charleston, South Carolina, and Kimberly (Troy) Zindel of Wichita; and eight great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Larned Cemetery with Bob Sallee presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2021, at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in Larned Cemetery.
