Vernon Denning

Vernon Denning, age 70, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 12, 1950, in Hays, KS, the son of Gabriel and Beata (Pfannenstiel) Denning. Vernie attended Hoxie Grade School until the age of 11 when the family moved to WaKeeney, where he attended school until his sophomore year. He then attended Olathe School for the Blind in Olathe, KS.

Upon graduation Vernie lived in Wichita, KS for a short period of time where he worked with the blind making brooms. Following a stroke, he returned home to WaKeeney. Vernie loved music and played the accordion. He liked watching baseball, car races, and gameshows on TV.

Vernon is survived by three brothers, Gerald (Beryl) Denning, of Lewisville, TX, Cecil Denning of Salina, KS, and Robert (Linda) Denning of Hays; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters-in-law, Twila Denning and Cleo Denning.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney with a rosary immediately following.

Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, February 4, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Christ the King Catholic church, WaKeeney, with Father Pascal Klein as celebrant. Burial will then take place at Christ the King Cemetery, WaKeeney.
