馃 Hays High opens new facility with a sweep of Junction City

HAYS - Hays High opened up their new softball facility with a double header sweep over the Junction City Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Game 1
Hays 18 - Junction City 3 - 4 innings

Hays scored in each of the four innings of an 18-3 run rule victory over Junction City.

Junction City (0-6) scored first with a pair of runs in the first inning. A run scoring double by Bianca Neth scored the first run. An error by the Indians allowed the game to jump to a 2-0 score.

Hays (2-2) answered back with a run in the bottom of the first. Shae Augustine put a ball in play that was misplayed by the Blue Jays and Jaylee Summers scored the first of her four runs on the day.

Summers kept Junction City off the base paths in the second inning. Hays threw a huge number on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second.

The Indians completed 14 at-bats in the 10 run second inning. Brynlee Brous, Adalie Kippes and Aly Herl loaded the bases which set the stage for Brynlee Rupp to give Hays the lead with a two-run single at 3-2.

Summers drove in the next run on a single and then Avery Raymer was hit by a pitch to again load the bases. Shea Augustine cleared the bases with a double for a 7-2 score. The inning continued with a Brooklyn Dinkel single that drove in a run. Brous hit the base of the outfield fence for a RBI double and Kippes knocked in the tenth run of the inning with a single for an 11-2 advantage.

Hays scored four more in the third inning with Summers, Raymer, Augustin, and Dinkel all reaching to lead off the inning and then each scoring for a 15-2 lead. Junction City score a single tally in the top of the fourth.

Hays ended the game with three runs in the fourth inning. Dinkel doubled in Summers for her fourth run of the game. Then a hard hit ball off the bat of Brous to center field was misplayed by the Blue Jays to score the final two runs.

Highlights

Rupp, Summers, Dinkel, Kippes and Herl all record multiple hits. Summers, Raymer, Dinkel, Brous, Kippes, and Kaylee Kollman all scored multiple runs. 

Summers (1-2) took the victory by pitching all four innings. She allowed three runs but none were earned. She gave up four hits, struck out five and walked one. 

Game 2
Hays 11 - Juntion City 2

Hays took advantage of a two-out error in centerfield to jump on top of the the Blue Jays 4-0. Summers, Kollman, Dinkel and Becker each scored to give the Indians the early lead.

Junction City scratched across a run in the second before the Indians added two more in the bottom of the inning. Rupp scored first on a wild pitch and then Summers followed on a sacrifice fly off Augustine's bat for a 6-1 score.

Brous hit the new facility's first home run with a solo shot to left field to lead off the third inning.

Highlights

Junction City scored their second and final run of the game in the top of the fourth. The Indians were quick to answer back with two more in the bottom of the inning. Kollman, running for Augustine after a single, scored on a bases loaded walk by Brous. Jaycee Gibbs drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to right field to score Dinkel at 9-2. 

The Indians added a run in each the fifth and sixth inning. Summers capped off the seven runs she scored in the double header with a run in fifth and Rylee Heeren worked a sixth inning walk and scored on a error by the right fielder for the final run of the game at 11-2.

Freshman Avery Raymer (1-0) records her first career win. Through four innings she allowed three hits, two runs, both earned, struck out four and walked three. Summers threw the final three innings allow just two hits and striking out one.

Summers recorded three hits while Augustine and Herl each added two. Summers scored three runs, Dinkel and Kollman each scored a pair.

Hays' next action will open Western Athletic Conference play with a trip to Liberal for a single game on Thursday.
