NORTON — The Kansas Department of Transportation has started work on three lighting projects in northwest Kansas.

KDOT will install new lighting at the intersection of U.S. 24 and U.S. 83 in Thomas County. Existing lighting will also be upgraded at Exit 1 at Kanorado, the westbound I-70 rest area near mile marker 7 in Sherman County and at both the east and westbound rest areas near Grainfield in Gove County.

Traffic is not expected to be affected while work is taking place. KDOT expects the projects to be completed in December, conditions permitting.

Phillips Southern Electric of Wichita is the primary contractor with a combined contract cost of approximately $409,000.
