HUTCHINSON — The new class president for the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center's 269th Basic Training Class is Officer James Murphy of the Ellis Police Department, according to a KLETC social media post.

Officer Murphy is a third-generation law enforcement officer.

“I find it very rewarding,” Murphy said. “I will be graduating from KLETC 40 years after my grandfather graduated from this very academy in 1980.”

Prior to joining the Ellis Police Department, Officer Murphy attended the University of Alaska-Fairbanks where he studied Homeland Security. He is also a graduate of the FBINAA's Youth Leadership Program Session 15 at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

The Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in Hutchinson directly trains the overwhelming majority of municipal, county and state law enforcement officers in Kansas.
