Fort Hays State alum named general manager at Smoky Hills PBS

BUNKER HILL — Smoky Hills PBS as welcomed Betsy Schwien to its team as the new general manager. Schwien will oversee all operations of SHPBS.  

“Betsy brings great leadership and enthusiasm to Smoky Hills PBS,” said Joe Robben, chairman of the Smoky Hills PBS board of directors.  “Myself, as well as the other board members, feel that Betsy will move us forward and provide for a successful future.  We are thrilled to work with Betsy and her team and excited for the future of Smoky Hills PBS.”

Schwien is originally from the Kansas City area but has lived in Russell for the last 20-plus years with her husband, Justin, and son, Jase. She is a Fort Hays State University alumni, receiving both her bachelor's and master's degrees from FHSU. Schwien has a long history of working with the public and has a true passion for service to her community.  She joins the Smoky Hills PBS team with a background in health care administration as well as public service.    

“I am both honored and blessed to be working for such an incredible organization,” Schwien said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead this great team where each one of them bring so many new and exciting ideas. To be surrounded by such an amazing group of people, which I now call my SHPBS family, is a great honor.  I am excited for our future, stay tuned for more to come from Smoky Hills PBS.!”

Schwien joins Smoky Hills PBS as they get ready to launch another March Pledge Drive.  Donor support during these pledge drives allows SHPBS to provide quality and educational programming to its viewers in central and western Kansas.
