Phyllis A. Rueschhoff

Phyllis Ann Rueschhoff, 79, Hays, died Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at HaysMed.

She was born January 16, 1941 on the family farm northeast of Grinnell, the oldest of seven children of Stephen and Betty (Halbleib) Broeckelman.  In 1959 she graduated from Grinnell High School, and then attended one year of college at Marymount College in Salina.  On July 9, 1960, Phyllis was united in marriage to Day Rueschhoff and to their union they had five children; Stephanie, Melanie, Deb, Darren, and Dayna.  They were married 35 years before he preceded her in death on May 18, 1996.   Phyllis was a full-time homemaker who enjoyed gardening and canning.  Later, she taught piano lessons as well as worked as a florist and seamstress.  While living in Angelus she was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, St. Paul Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella.  After moving to Hays in 2001, she became a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Survivors include her son; Darren Rueschhoff (Angel) of Hays, her four daughters; Stephanie Matteson (Brad) of Inkster, ND, Melanie Moeder of Hays, Deb Bickford of Olathe, and Dayna Krannawitter (Brian) of Lincoln, NE, 12 grandchildren; Ashley Renfrow (Dakota), Andy Moeder (Whitney), Trey Moeder (Alyssa), Skylin Day (Dustin), Keyston Moeder, Lauren Bickford (fiancé Frank Fuentes), Connor Bickford, Tyler Rueschhoff, Jace Rueschhoff, Abby Rueschhoff, Taryn Rueschhoff, and Cole Krannawitter, nine great grandchildren; Dayson, Ryalin, Mayci, Brooke, Lydia, Gage, Kinslee, Kori, and Karsyn, a brother; Lee Broeckelman (Barb) of Grinnell, three sisters; Joan Ostmeyer (Rick) of Hays, Lois Stafford (Don) of Hays, and Barb Dayvault of Sacramento, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Day, a grandson; Jerad Bickford, and two sisters; Edith Broeckelman and Judy Brull.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Friday, October 2, 2020 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Angelus, with Fr. Luke Thielen officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Thursday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hays and from 9:30 am until 10:30 on Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Angelus.  A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Church or to Hays Good Samaritan Society.  Condolences and memories of Phyllis may be shared with the family at www.haysmemorial.com
