It wasn't the blizzard predicted by the National Weather Service, but Thursday's winter storm did bring much-needed moisture to Hays.
According to the K-State Agricultural Research Center south of Hays, rain mixed with half an inch of snow yielded 0.50 inches of precipitation.
A peak wind gust of 46 mph was recorded at 12:35 p.m.
Hays is more than inch behind in the 153-year cumulative average moisture by the end of March. So far this year, the city has seen 1.27 inches of precipitation, while the average is 2.46 inches
All of Ellis County (3 down, 5 right from upper left corner) remains in severe drought as shown in the U.S. Drought Monitor for Kansas released yesterday.

The weekend weather forecast calls for sunshine and much warmer temperatures.
