DENVER - Core Jackson and Grant Schmidt both homer and Jose Velazquez pitched six hitless innings in relief to help the Hays Larks to a 5-1 win over the Colorado Sox Sunday afternoon. The Larks score two runs in the fifth inning then added two more in the ninth as they bounced back from their first loss of the season the night before.
Grant Schmidt tied the game with a home run to left in the second. Zach Henry gave them the lead for good with a two-out double in the fifth. Brock Lummus followed with a single which scored Henry to make the score 3-1.
Jackson hit a two-run homer in the ninth.
Velazquez (2-0) didn’t allow a hit over the final six innings with six strikeouts and one walk. The Cochise Community College freshman used only 62 pitches to get his second win of the season.
Starter Trevor Munsch allowed one run on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
The Larks close out their first road trip of the season Monday night against the GameDay Saints.
